Dorothy M ""Allert"" Forgey Obituary

Dorothy “Allert” Forgey, passed away November 8th, 2024. She died from complications of kidney failure.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Gary Forgey of Ellensburg, WA, her daughter Delrae Buehler of Huntington, OR, son Louis Allert of Ritzville, WA, son Redgey Peterson of Idaho, son Guy Peterson of Idaho, grandson Brogan Buehler of Huntington, OR, sister Betty Tobbin of Coeur d’ Alene, ID, brother Allan Solom of Lewiston, ID, brother Donald Solom of Lewiston, ID, and brother Gary Solom of Wilmington, NC. Dorothy was preceded in death by her late husband Delbert “Sonny” Allert, brother Robert Solom, and sister Beverly Waterbly.

Dorothy was born August 14th, 1942 in Roseau, Minnesota, to Olaf and Violet Solom. She attended school in Williams, Minnesota until her family moved to Coeur d’ Alene Idaho in 1964. In 1965 she moved to Ritzville, WA and married Delbert “Sonny” Allert. Dorothy and Sonny lived on a ranch in Lamont, WA for years with their children Delrae and Louis where they raised cattle, horses, and wheat. They later moved to Lind, WA. Sonny passed away on May 11, 1998. Dorothy, Delrae, and Louis continued to operate the farm.

Dorothy married Gary Forgey of Ellensburg, WA. on April 24th, 2021. “She liked to drive” and spent most of her days helping Gary at his hay farm in Ellensburg or Louis operate the family farm in Lind.

Dorothy and Gary were in love, spending their time together; going to Rodeos, enjoying the company of friends, working hard, and living on Gary’s hay farm. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her horses, cattle, and her grandson Brogan. Dorothy’s standards were high and she always had a vision or plan to keep things going. Dorothy would let you know what she expected of you. Dorothy loved Jesus, read the Bible daily, and attended church regularly with Gary. Dorothy always quoted from the Bible. When she was happy you knew it, apparent by her smiling demeanor. If she was sad, you heard about it, and then better be ready to “look out”! She would let you know where she stood on issues, communicating them in a considerate way. Dorothy always made sure Delrae had good horses and traveled with her to countless rodeos. Delrae won a lot of barrel races, Dorothy always pushing her to do better!

Dorothy will be missed by all, especially family and friends. She loved people and liked to stop and visit with friends and even strangers. She had no fear talking to people she didn’t know.

One day on her travels, Dorothy stopped for gas. A Hispanic gentleman walked up to her and started talking with her. As always, she was dressed in Western attire, so the gentleman knew she was a horse person. He asked Dorothy if she wanted a “Free Horse”. By the time they finished talking she was the owner of said “Free Horse.” Although the horse was free, Dorothy felt compelled to pay something to the gentleman. He shared that he was headed to Mexico to visit his family. Dorothy gave him $500 for the “Free Horse”. That is the way Dorothy was, always thinking of others and being kind to strangers, family, and friends. Dorothy had a knack for making things work, no matter how difficult the situation. We will all miss her dearly. She was a kind, hard working lady, loving her family, friends, and her cherished husband, Gary.

We will miss Dorothy “Allert” Forgey.
